8 people escape death in freak Kombi accident

Seven people escaped death, Monday, when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in overturned near Entumbane Complex along Luveve road.

The seven who were on board were on their way to the city centre in the morning when the accident occurred.

A pupil who was on their way to school was struck by a stone which was propelled by the overturning vehicle.

The eight were rushed to Mpilo hospital for treatment and are reportedly in a stable condition.

The 28-year-old driver told the police who attended the scene that the accident was caused by a mechanical fault which them to him losing control of the vehicle.

Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the accident, saying the injured people were rushed to Mpilo hospital and their condition is stable.

“I can confirm that we attended an accident where eight people were injured. Seven were on board and one was a pupil who was passing by. The commuter omnibus threw a stone as it overturned and it the pupil on the head. The injured people were rushed to Mpilo hospital for treatment and their condition is stable,” said Insp Ncube.

Insp Ncube urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads to avoid road traffic accidents.

“The driver said his vehicle developed a mechanical fault and he lost control. There were seven people who were aboard that were injured. As the police we urge motorists to exercise extreme caution on the road and to make sure their vehicles are in good condition before ferrying people,” he said.
