Chamisa seeks meeting with Mnangagwa

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has written to President Emmerson Mnangagwa seeking a meeting with him as the two are set to slug it out for the presidency in this year`s elections.

In his weekly Road to Victory update, the MDC Alliance presidential candidate indicated that he was yet to get a response from President Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa is currently in China on official government business.

“In the spirit of nation-building and promoting constructive dialogue in the quest to find solutions to national challenges, I have written to President Emmerson Mnangagwa requesting a meeting with him.
“I have written to him with the aim of defining and framing the parameters and contours of a national discourse in our country’s politics,” said Chamisa.

Since assuming power President Mnangagwa has reached out to the opposition and even visited MDC founding president Morgan Tsvangirai at his Harare home before he succumbed to colon cancer in February.

The president has also promised to convene an indaba for all political parties ahead of the crunch polls.

“It is important to eliminate insults, animosity and hatred in our national politics. We need new politics; the politics of ideas, solutions, policies and national strategies to develop Zimbabwe,” said Chamisa.

“The MDC is a partner in the national development and not a threat. Being on opposing political sides is not enmity but just an expression of the reality of diverse views. After all, it is diversity that makes a nation because diversity strengthens and does not weaken”.

Chamisa also called for inclusion of opposition political parties in the observance of national holidays and national events, a departure from the norm where opposition political parties often boycotted these events.
