Huge send off for Cllr Ncube, party youths call for youthful replacement

MDC-T provincial youth leader and ward 1 Councillor Mlandu Ncube has called on the party to elect a youthful candidate to replace the late Ward 28 councillor Hapson Ncube.

Cllr Ncube,34 died on December 9 after succumbing to a short illness.

Addressing mourners at the Amphitheatre, the youth leader described the late Cllr Ncube as a goal oriented visionary leader.

He said the MDC-T party has a culture of giving young people leadership opportunities.

“We demand that when a new councillor is set in place, it be a youthful leader. We need vibrant, loyal and truthful leaders. “The party has no space for murderers, betrayers, liars and old people who want to cling to power forever,” said Mlandu.

He added: “Cllr Ncube believed that no one must stay in power forever. It is this belief that drove him to leave the national army and join the movement for democratic change party. His vision for Cowdray Park was to fix roads before May 2019. We hope this will be attended to in the shortest time possible”.

Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Solomon Mguni said the local authority will elect a caretaker councillor until a by-election is held to elect a new councillor.

“The late Cllr Ncube had earmarked construction of roads leading to the new stands and the construction of a new clinic. The caretaker council will have to push these projects while we await by-elections to elect a new councillor,” said Mayor Mguni.

The mayor said the council has been robbed of a resourceful person before they could learn much from him.

“Cllr Ncube was a jovial but aggressive mastermind who tackled economic issues without fear or favour. He has gone too soon before we could benefit more from him. He was a member of the Finance and Development Committee and the Health, Housing and Education Committee,” said Mayor Mguni.

Cllr Ncube joined the MDC in 2008 and was elected as Luveve District Youth Chairperson.

He was sworn in as a Councillor of the City of Bulawayo on August 31, 2018.

Councillor Ncube is survived by his wife Meliqiniso Sithole and two children.
