Zanu PF’s Mnangagwa re-elected president of Zimbabwe

Zanu PF candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa has been re-elected president of Zimbabwe, according to results released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Mnangagwa, the incumbent president, won 52.6% of the vote, defeating the main opposition candidate, Nelson Chamisa of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), who received 44% of the vote.

Mnangagwa polled 2 350 711 votes while Chamisa got 1 967 343 votes.

“Therefore, Mnangagwa Emmerson Dambudzo of the Zanu PF party is declared duly elected president of the Republic of Zimbabwe with effect from 26 August 2023,” declared ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba at the national command centre in Harare.

Zanu PF also won parliament claiming 136 seats while CCC won 73 seats. One seat is pending after ZEC deferred the Gutu West election following the death of independent candidate Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi.

The seat will be filled through a by-election.
