UBH patient tests positive for Covid-19

A female patient who is admitted to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) has tested positive for Covid-19, with health officials saying measures were being taken to make sure the staff and other patients were safe.

In an interview with CITE, UBH Clinical Director Dr Narcisius Dzvanga, confirmed the case but said he was yet to have a full report.

“I received the message this morning and I am waiting for a full report from the gynae (gynaecologist)who had been tending to the patient. I am a physician and the patient was at the gynae’s and these are different wards but yes I am aware. This is not a secret but due diligence is being carried out to provide a detailed report,” he said.

Dr Dzvanga said once the report was availed, it would also be shared with the Bulawayo City Council’s health department.

Acting Provincial Medical Director for Bulawayo, Dr Welcome Mlilo, also confirmed the case.

“I received an update of a confirmed Covid-19 case from one of the central hospitals. However, I am yet to get an official report on the matter. Please do make a follow-up with me tomorrow morning,” he said.

As of June 15, Bulawayo had 26 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Nationally, the total number of positive confirmed cases in the country has risen to 401 after 10 returnees South Africa tested positive for the novel virus.

Of the ten cases two were recorded in Bulawayo, six in Harare one in Midlands and one in Mashonaland West provinces, said the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

Out of the 401 confirmed cases, the country has recorded 63 recoveries and four deaths.
