Schools to reopen next week for examination classes

Schools are set to open next Monday for the examination classes while remaining other learners will resume classes early next month.

The schools which were supposed to reopen in June for the second term, remain shut to date as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Cabinet is advising that schools will re-open on 30 August 2021 for examination classes and 6 September 2021 for non-examination classes,” Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa announced.

This development comes at a time when the government has extended by a further two weeks, the country’s Level 4 lockdown under which intercity travel is banned while businesses operate from 8AM to 3:30PM.

However, Mutsvangwa said learners will be exempted from some lockdown regulations.

“Intercity and intercity transportation for learners will be allowed during the re-opening of schools periods, subsections to monitoring by law enforcement agencies,” he tweeted.

On advice from scientists, Mangwana said the vaccination programme will also be extended to the 14 to 17 year age groups.

He also disclosed that restaurants are now allowed to re-open for sit-in patrons who are fully vaccinated upon production of vaccination cards and strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols.

Meanwhile, Mutsvangwa disclosed that Zimbabwe has donated some vaccines to Namibia.

“In the spirit of regional cooperation and sisterly nationhood, Govt of Zimbabwe is donating 20000 doses of vaccines to the Republic of Namibia,” she said.
