BCC mourns Mahlangu

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has mourned the death of Polyaanna Mahlangu, the founder of Ekuphumuleni Geriatric Nursing Home.

Mahlangu passed on Tuesday morning.

She was 95 years old.

Mahlangu was taken in at the home two years ago after she suffered a stroke.

In a statement, Wednesday, Bulawayo Mayor Solomon Mguni said the City is saddened by the passing on of Mahlangu who had passion and commitment for the elderly.

“His worship Solomon Mguni, the Mayor, Aldermen, Councillors, Town Clerk Mr C. Dube, heads of council departments and staff of the City of Bulawayo have learnt with sadness of the passing on of Mrs Polyanna Mahlangu, a civil honours recipient,” said Mguni.

He said Mahlangu received civil honours award in 1991 in appreciation for setting up the old people’s home.

“Mrs Mahlangu was awarded the Civic honours Award on the 4th September 1991 as a mark of the City’ appreciation of her public work over a period of many years and in particular the setting up of the Ekuphumuleni old people’s home. Mrs Mahlangu embodied the recognition of a Civic Honours recipient through her community work and brought distinction to the City outside her normal day to day duties,” said the Mayor.

“Bulawayo is saddened by the passing on of Polyanna Mahlangu, but her passion and commitment for the elderly will be treasured for many years to come. May her soul rest in peace.”
