Man up for stock theft

A 26-year-old man from Bulawayo’s New Magwegwe suburb was arrested in Tsholotsho on stock theft charges.

A court heard Mbongeni Ngwenya allegedly connived with two accomplices who are now on the run and slaughtered a cow belonging to Lyton Mbambo (43).

According to the State, the trio drove to Deli Village where they stole and slaughtered the cow and loaded it into Ngwenya’s car.

They were intercepted by some villagers and Ngwenya’s two accomplices jumped out of the moving car and fled, leaving him behind which led to his arrest.

“Ngwenya stole and slaughtered one beast in the company of two other suspects who are still at large. They loaded the carcase into Ngwenya’s motor vehicle and drove away. He was intercepted by the villagers at Deli Village while on his way to Bulawayo,” the State papers read.

“The other two accused persons escaped from the moving vehicle leaving Ngwenya alone. He was found in possession of the beast. He was driving the vehicle used during the commission of the offense.”

Ngwenya appeared before Tsholotsho Magistrate Victor Mpofu who remanded him to March 8.

Through his lawyer, Maqhawe Mpofu of Samp Mlaudzi and Partners, Ngwenya was released on ZWL$4 000 bail.

As part of bail conditions, Magistrate Mpofu ordered that he resides at his New Magwegwe home, not interfere with State witnesses and to report twice a week on Mondays and Fridays at Luveve police station until the matter is finalised.
