Health officials applaud first-day polio vaccination turnout

Health officials in Bulawayo have commended the turnout for the polio vaccination on the first day and urged parents to come through during the holiday on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC), in collaboration with UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other partners, launched a nationwide polio vaccination campaign using the novel Oral Poliomyelitis (NOPV 2) vaccine following a polio case in Harare.

The vaccination campaign targets all children under 10 years old with 214,586 polio vaccines set to be rolled out.

Health officials at Princess Margaret Clinic in Bulawayo commended the first-day turnout.

“The turnout for day one was good, we are not complaining. The parents were forthcoming, and the uptake was good,” they said.

The officials encouraged people to keep coming for polio vaccination.

“Even tomorrow, being a holiday, we will be there from 7:30 am till late.”

Although the City Health Director, Dr Edwin Sibanda-Mzingwane, had not yet received the statistics for the day, he said the vaccination in primary schools also commenced well.
