New school to open in Cowdray Park

VULINDLELA Primary School in Cowdray Park suburb is set to open next term with 650 learners already enrolled at the school.

The school which is being constructed by the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) will decongest the four primary schools in the suburb, Tategulu, Mkhithika, Mgiqika and Cowdray Park which used to have an average enrolment of 2 300 pupils each.

Writing on his Twitter account, Thursday, Information Secretary Nick Mangwana said the opening of the school is going to reduce the distance walked by learners to the nearest schools.

“Vulindlela Primary School in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, is set to open its doors for the first intake when schools open for the second term this year,” he said.

“The school was funded under the devolution program. It will reduce the distance that pupils were walking to the nearest schools.”

Contacted for a comment, Cowdray Park Councilor, Kidwell Mujuru confirmed the development and said the school will at the moment enrol Grade zero to four learners.

“ It is ready though it is still incomplete, are you aware that it is only 50 percent complete. It has only three blocks, six classrooms,” said Cllr Mujuru.

“We are going to be enrolling from grade zero to four only. They have enrolled 16 teachers from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to work at the school.”
