Family feud erupts after Zanu PF candidate blames sister-in-law for losing election

A family feud has erupted after a Zanu PF candidate who was running for Member of Parliament in Lupane East Constituency accused her sister-in-law who was a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) polling agent of de-campaigning her, leading to her loss in the election.

Phathisiwe Ncube Machangu got 6,241 votes and lost the election to a CCC member Bright Vanya Moyo who got 6,476.

In an interview, the CCC agent Bongani Ndlovu said her aunt now blames her for her loss.

“I was a CCC agent in ward 18, ward centre Makhovula, my aunt wanted to be a Member of Parliament under ZANU-PF, so she lost and now blames me for de-campaigning her. She said she would look for people to make me disappear,” said Ndlovu.

Ndlovusaid some people actually came looking for her yesterday but she was not at home.

“I went to report the matter to the police.”

Ndlovu also claimed that her brother-in-law, Mkhululi Ncube, who is a police officer also called her asking why she was a CCC agent when the family supports ZANU-PF.

“But this ZANU-PF found us already under CCC, and this aunt didn’t come to us seeking our support. I am now living in fear, my aunt doesn’t even stay here she is based in Bulawayo, she came here for her campaign. She now blames me for her loss as if I am the one who told the whole of Lupane East not to vote for her,” she said.

Contacted for a comment, Ncube dismissed the issue as a small misunderstanding.

“There is just a small misunderstanding, She is our daughter-in-law, so I guess she is just making up a story. The issue is that she was a CCC agent whilst the aunt was campaigning for ZANU-PF, that is the story, She must not feel threatened it’s a family matter,” said Ncube.
