Villagers fume over partisan distribution of farming inputs

Hingwe villagers in Plumtree have condemned the partisan distribution of farming implements by Zanu PF officials in the area.

Hingwe villagers in Plumtree have condemned the partisan distribution of farming implements by Zanu PF officials in the area.

This comes after Ward 12 Councillor Fidzani Ndlovu on Saturday allegedly distributed maize seed from the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) to villagers who are members of the ruling party.

The councillor is accused of working in cahoots with village heads in identifying Zanu PF members.

A close source told CITE that the Councillor himself declared the aid was for ZANU-PF members only.

“The councillor called in a meeting for all residents. We went to the meeting and when we got there the Councillor told people that only ZANU PF members are getting the maize seeds,” narrated one villager who requested anonymity fearing victimisation.

Villagers were being given 10kg maize seed in preparation of the farming season.

Contacted for a comment, Councillor Ndlovu, however, denied the allegations stating that the distribution was fair, with every villager benefitting.

“I was with the village leadership and everyone got their share. I am not aware what the villagers are complaining about,” said Cllr Ndlovu.

The move did not go down well with Zanu PF members in the area, who said it was time to move away from politicising development issues
