Khupe fires 2 Vic Falls councillors

By Nokuthaba Dlamini

Two Victoria Falls Councillors have been recalled by the Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T party for pledging allegiance to MDC Alliance.

The two councillors Margret Varley from ward 1 and Ward 6 Councillor Ephias Mambume were relieved of their duties on Friday last week and were subsequently served with their dismissal letters by Town Clerk Ronnie Dube this Tuesday.

“You are hereby advised that the Minister of Local Governance and Public Works by minute referenced X/28/34 dated 11 September 2020 informed my office that you have been expelled from the MDC (T) party…,” read the dismissal letters.

“Kindly liaise with the Town Clerk office on or before the 18th of September 2020 and return the Council Assets which are in your possession. We hope you find this in order and your dedicated service which was offered to Council and the community at large is highly appreciated.”

Varley confirmed receiving her expulsion letter.

She said she was convinced that her expulsion was linked to her loyalty to Chamisa.

“For me it’s a badge of honour not to be associated with the Khupe/ Mwonzora (Douglas). I am firmly behind Chamisa and his team,” she said.

However, Mambume said he had not received his expulsion letter.

“I haven’t seen it yet,” he curtly responded.

Khupe has also recalled eight Bulawayo councillors, Gwanda mayor Jastone Mazhale, three Beitbrdige councillors and 21 Harare councillors.
