Mat North receives 50K vaccines, hotspot areas a priority

By Judith Sibanda

Matabeleland North province has received 50 000 Sinopharm vaccines and priority will be given to Hwange district, provincial medical director Doctor Munekayi Padingani has said.

“Our distribution is purely based on the burden of the disease per district,” Munekayi said.

“We are checking how many cases we are recording per day so it means that Hwange will get more.”

As of Sunday, Hwange district had 310 active cases with most of them concentrated in the urban area.

Victoria Falls has 91 active cases after massive vaccinations of over 19 000 people since March.

Umguza and Bubi districts have the least number of active cases.

Padingani said the province first received 15 000 doses which have since been distributed.

As of Sunday, 41 new cases were recorded in the province bringing the cumulative total to 966 active cases while three deaths were also recorded.
