A 36-year-old Dangamvura man has been fined and had his driver’s licence revoked following a fatal accident that occurred on Christmas Pass-Shamu Road on March 12.

John Dumbura was driving a Toyota Fortuner when he lost control of the vehicle and struck four pedestrians walking on the roadside towards Chirichangu Farm in Masvingo.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) reported that the accident resulted in three deaths.

Blessing Chisari, Silvian Maponde, and Strive Maponde all suffered fatal head injuries.

The sole survivor, Tyron Chikwanda, sustained leg and neck injuries and received treatment at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.

Dumbura was found to be driving at excessive speed. His license was revoked due to negligence. He received a US$1,200 fine, with a six-month prison sentence in case of non-payment.

In a separate case, Leonard Tsaurai (33) of Gokwe South has been arrested on robbery charges for allegedly robbing people whom he had offered a lift in a Nissan Serena before robbing them of their belongings and US$75.

He was working with five accomplices who are still at large.

NPAZ stated that the suspects threatened the complainants with knives, machetes, and a pistol during the journey.

They were then taken to Mupfure Greens Farm in Chegutu where they were further intimidated and robbed of their valuables.

The robbers reportedly bound the victims’ hands with rope and covered their eyes with tape.

Police apprehended Tsaurai on April 21 and weapons believed to be used in the crime were recovered from the vehicle.

Tsaurai is remanded in custody until his next court appearance on May 9.
