‘Umakoti exhibition blends culture and fashion’

The uMakoti Royal Bride exhibition has been hailed for uplifting the image of women in society.

Speaking on the sidelines of the glamourous event, Friday, at the National Art Gallery, some of the models said the event has created a platform to amplify women voices.

The Royal Bride exhibition by NkaZana collection, is meant to celebrate African queens and redefine fashion through a cultural lens.

UNkaZana is a fusion of both names of the designers; Nkanyeziyethu Malunga and Nomakhosazana Ncube.

One of the models Fadzayi Nyarurwe a 24 year old Geo-Science student, said she was glad to be part of the exhibition and it exposed her to other women from different backgrounds whom she managed to form a bond with.

Another model, Portia Ncube-Mabuza said in her experience with previous fashion shows, the exhibition was thought-provoking as she gained a lot through mentorship seminars they were attending.

Rufaro Munemo , another model said with the knowledge she gained, she will share it with other women as she believes every woman in Zimbabwe should be treated as an African Queen.

The designers and organisers of the show, said they were overwhelmed and pleased with the number of people who turned out for the show.

Nomakhosazana  Ncube, one of the designers said their hopes for uNkaZana is to host an exhibition  next year that will celebrate rural women as well.

Nkayeziyethu  Malunga, the co-event organizer and designer said they wish to make uMakoti a movement for all women in Zimbabwe to be part of and be able to identify with.
