Seven learners survive car crash

A group of learners from Moray Primary School in Bulawayo had a lucky escape after avoiding serious injury when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in overturned.

The accident happened at the intersection of Matopos road and Dundee drive at about 7 am on Wednesday on their way to school when the kombi collided with another vehicle.

The seven learners and both drivers sustained injuries.

“On the 21st day of April 2021 at around 0710 hours a report was received that a road traffic accident involving a Public Service Vehicle and private motor vehicle just occurred at intersection Matopos road and Dande drive hillside, Bulawayo where nine people were injured,” said Inspector Abednico Ncube, Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson.

He said the Kombi driver is aged 37 years from Emganwini while the driver of the other vehicle, a BMW 318 series is a female aged 47 years.

“The first party and seven school children sustained minor injuries and they were ferried to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) by a Bulawayo City Council (BCC) ambulance, where they were all treated and discharged,” he said.

Inspector Ncube urged drivers to be careful when driving and observe all road traffic rules and regulations.
