CITE empowers 15 young women with digital skills

The Center for Innovation and Technology (CITE) Tuesday began a six-month digital skills training programme meant to equip young women with digital skills.

The We the Future project which started in 2017 is empowering young women between the ages of 18-25. This comes after a realization that young women are not empowered to use digital and social media platforms to tell their stories.

The participants

The project has trained more than 100 young women and some of them are doing exceptional work in media and civic spaces.

This year, the project includes a three-day boot camp training which started on Tuesday, and it will equip 15 participants with skills to tell impactful stories through text, video, and photos.

Sibusisiwe Vundla, a participant said she was excited to be part of training and will use the acquired skills to empower women in her community.

Another participant, Buhlebenkosi Tembo added that it is the duty of women themselves to talk and expose the challenges they face in their communities.

Angel Dube, another participant said she will use the skills to tell the story of the young women facing challenges in her community.

In observing the International Day of the Girl Child running under the theme, Girls deserve better- the world deserves better, the We The Future project aims at prioritizing young women and improving their livelihoods by encouraging them to speak out about the issues affecting them through digital storytelling telling.
