Form One boarding places application process opens

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education online application process for 2019 Form One boarding places has opened.

Parents and guardians with Grade 7 pupils can apply using the Electronic Ministry Application Platform (EMAP) from November 5 to December 21, 2018.

The online application process was introduced in 2017 after most parents complained that they were being forced to bribe school authorities to secure boarding school places for their children.

The outgoing Primary and Secondary Education permanent secretary Dr. Sylvia Janet Utete-Masango said school heads should start preparing for the application process.

“Heads of schools are therefore advice to resuscitate admission committees for the purpose of enrolling leaners as soon as Grade 7 results are out,” she said.

She advised parents to be quick in securing places for their children as there are few boarding schools in the country.

“Parents or guardians should appreciate there are only 262 boarding schools with a total capacity of 24 320 places against a 2018 Grade 7 candidature of 350 810,” she revealed.

Utete-Masango said EMAP is only applicable to boarding schools otherwise for day schools parents are advised to approach schools of their choice.

She said successful students will be notified through SMS by the school heads.

Grade 7 Results are likely to be out in the first week of December.
