Appeal for assistance to rebuild Kombani Lodge after fire

Efforts are underway to resuscitate Kombani Africa Lodge in Plumtree, which was razed down by fire on Wednesday.

The inferno, which emanated from a veld fire, destroyed lodgings, a conference room, a bar and other structures at the three-star facility.

The lodge is owned by businessman Charles Moyo who is based in South Africa.

Speaking to CITE in an interview, a family member, Thoko Moyo, said an assessment is still being done to evaluate how much damage was done.

“Everything was destroyed in the fire. We are yet to ascertain the value of the property that was damaged. In the meantime we are focusing on clearing the debris that is at the lodge,” she said.

“We are appealing for assistance from well-wishers so that we may be able to restore Kombani into the beauty it was. We would appreciate if the ZTA and the government would intervene as well.”

Plumtree resident Handsome Sibanda has been mobilising volunteers to assist with the clean-up at the lodge.

“The initiative was started by Thoko, I’m only here on the ground to assist. At the moment I’m mobilising people who would like to assist in cleaning the place. There is a lot of work that needs to be done in terms of clearing all the debris. We plan on cleaning the place on Monday,” he said.

Those who wish to assist with labour in manual work for cleaning up can contact Sibanda in Plumtree on +263773316635.

A WhatsApp group has been created for well-wishers to deliberate on how best to assist in the situation.
