A 17-year-old shopkeeper in Lupane has been arrested for murder after he allegedly stabbed a 27-year-old village following an altercation over an undisclosed matter.

The juvenile who cannot be identified because of his age, and the now deceased Trynas Dube both resided in Tshebetshebe village under Chief Mabhikwa.

The two had a fistfight on Wednesday last week resulting in the accused juvenile rushing into the shop and arming himself with a knife which he used to stab Dube, police confirmed.

Acting Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Mahohoma said the juvenile has been arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

“Police in Lupane arrested a murder suspect, a male juvenile in connection with the death of Trynas Dube of Tshebetshebe village, Chief Mabhikwa, Lupane on 09 November 2022.

“On 08 of November 2022, Trynas Dube was at Mahoho Business Centre where he confronted the accused person who is a shopkeeper at Ntuntuko store and an altercation arose over an undisclosed matter. It then degenerated into a fist-fight and the suspect ran into the shop and returned armed with a knife which he then used to stab Dube once on the left side of the neck,” said Assistant Inspector Mahohoma.

Dube collapsed after the attack and became unconscious.

He started bleeding profusely.

A witness pulled the unconscious Dube to a nearby shed and alerted some people who were nearby but they found Dube already dead.

A report was made to the police who attended the scene and arrested the juvenile.

Dube’s body was taken to St Luke’s Hospital in Lupane en route to United Bulawayo Hospitals for postmortem.

Police have urged members of the public to desist from the use of violence as a way of solving differences.

“People should engage third parties like community and church leaders if they have issues. Disputes between two or more people, be it at home, workplace or elsewhere should be resolved in a peaceful manner without resorting to the use of weapons to either injure or kill another person,” said Assistant Inspector Mahohoma.
