Suspected robbers pounce at Inspire offices

Suspected robbers allegedly broke into Inspire Women, Men and Children’s Trust offices in Bulawayo’s Phelandaba suburb, Monday, CITE has learnt.

The organisation’s projects manager, Gift Sanyamawe, in an interview said the suspects fought with two security guards who were manning the premises, resulting in one sustaining serious head injuries.

“Three men came at around 2 AM. They cut the fence at one of the corners to gain entry. They manhandled our guards and in the process, they injured one of them severely on the head. He is currently admitted to a local hospital,” said Sanyamawe.

“It is fortunate that they did not gain entry into the premises. When they came in the guards screamed and blew whistles to alert neighbours. People came to their rescue and the robbers fled.”Sanyamawe said this is the third time their offices have been hit in a space of seven months.”

“This is the third time we have encountered such. First, it was in December when we lost equipment worth over US$6 000. They stole solar equipment, computers among other gadgets. Last month there was another attempt but they didn’t steal anything because there were guards. Now today we have this incident again,” he said.

“These robberies are now worrying us. After investing so much in security these thieves keep coming back. We are grateful though for the response we got from the police today. We hope these thieves will be caught soon.”

Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the police were still getting details on the matter.
